I decided I needed to work some more on this beautiful face. I know I need to darken the hair some more but I will do that when I’ve finished the full face.
I’m a member of Laleh Kamalian Art’s Coloured Pencil School, they have been drawing her once a week on a live draw a long on a Wednesday night, for over 2 months now.
This week they have finished her and that was Part 9 I think, so I have 4 more 2 hour recordings to go to finish mine.
The finished drawings I’ve seen from the other members is WOW. I hope mine comes out equally as good.

I’m not going to lie, when I was drawing the nose last night I was well out of my comfort zone. Not fully enjoying the drawing experience on this piece, I really felt I can’t do this, I”m going to go wrong, but I had to as always quieten my naughty brain to say just listen to Laleh, everything will be ok, trust her process and go through the lay down of the colours in the order and it will turn out ok.
I found in places that maybe I’d been too heavy handed and I had filled in the paper layers so when I was trying to put the skin colours down I felt it wasn’t working as good as what I saw on the computer screen.
I think I need to start to learn to be lighter in my pressure. My brain tells me to press harder to get a darker colour and that isn’t the way to do it. I know I have to do soft light and gentle layers and build up. It’s all a learning process.
This week I have spent a lot more hours drawing and I have enjoyed it. The more I do daily the more I teach the muscle memory so that my strokes become second nature on whatever surface I’m working on.
Are You There? the name of this piece, is still on my drawing board this morning so I think I may try and do the next part today before working on something else.
Don’t forget if you aren’t following me and have just come across me on social media, please click like, follow and even leave me a comment. I would highly appreciate it.
