I have never drawn a human face properly before. I’ve drawn separate parts of a human body, like an ear, eye and lips but never a face. I did start the girl in a blue hat and I tried recently to work on it but for whatever reason I stopped. I think it was because I wasn’t happy putting a waxy pencil down on pastlemat as a first layer that Bonny was saying. Or I just need to learn more.
I’d seen other tutors doing it completely differently using a drier pencil like a Faber-Castell Polychromos first on that surface. To be honest there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. And looking at my result below, I still have to pinch myself and say WOW, I’ve done that.

I started the tutorial that Laleh has created with her regular Wednesday evening draw a long with her members of her pencil school called Are You There?.
Sadly it’s too late at night for me to join in on the live zoom on a Wednesday, at that time of night I’ve got no energy left plus at the moment I’m now about 4 lessons behind. That being said I could join in with them because they do it in sections. So maybe this week I may surprise myself.
Live sessions aren’t really for me. I do like to be able to pause and catch up.
Anyway I digress. I have really surprised myself at how this girls face is coming along. I’ve not quite remembered the sequence of the colours for the skin that you put down in layers yet, but practice make perfect.
Here are my stages photographs that I took, sorry photography isn’t my strong point, I really need to do better. I’ve no now completed 4 parts of 8 sessions that are about 2 hours long. The members are still drawing on her currently as I write this post.

I’m not going to lie I was scarred stiff at doing the eye lashes incase I made a complete mess of them but I’m pleased with them and the same with my eyebrow, I had to take a huge gulp and listen to Laleh and do as instructed.
What’s the worse that can happen. It goes wrong but NEVER goes in the bin. It’s all part of the learning journey,
